House of the Beast: LoF Session XV
The bustle of every day life in the city has only increased as time has passed since our adventurers last met. Whether peace, power, smoke or prestige, our heroes have had their fill. Bristling with coin and influence, they are summoned to meet with the city council. A strange priest has come to town and their trusted expertise is required.
He calls himself Zayiid and is dressed in a manner odd for his kind. He has come to deliver a message, or so he claims. An evil brews in the Brazen Peaks on the slopes of Pale Mountain. The Carrion King gathers gnolls under a banner of war, and left unchecked, will descend up on the town that has worked so hard to re-establish its prosperity. His story is convincing to some, but others have their doubts. Still, the threat of one who could unite the gnolls against the still tenuous settlement is too great to treat as idle chatter.
So, taking stock of themselves, Khatovar, Ce-Tan, and Glarth depart to collect their belonging and find their drunk-yet-trusty cleric, Zahkmed. Word has come of an attacked outpost and it’s cause must be determined.
Only a few hours away, the group quickly arrives and finds a lone gnoll standing in the midst of a devastated post. She introduces herself as Ukar, a worshipper of Lamashtu. A traitor to her people, she has cut a deal to supply information to representatives of the pactmasters present at the outpost. Though it is unclear to the heroes if this part of her story is entirely true, it is believable enough and with her contacts slain in the battle, a new, tentative deal for information is cut. Arranging to meet in the morning, the adventures return toward the city to investigate her tale. Before they depart however they learn that Ookar believes that Carrion King is Ghartouk. A famous gnoll who lead the battle of Solku. She also shares that the post was attacked by her people, Wormhollow, who fancy themselves the strong arm of the Carrion King, much to her chagrin. It would seem her motivations, if true, are to save her people from further defilement and transgressions which are against even a gnoll’s hellish nature.
Upon their arrival, they inform Almah of their findings and check the story of the gnoll with Garvel. He is unaware of any such agreement, though it is still possible the story is true.
When morning comes the group will leave again to return to the outpost and conclude their contact with Ukar
