Howl of the Carrion King Session XI
As the party regains their composure after dispatching the harpy, they assess their wounds and take stock of their surroundings. As the supersaiyan Kakarot returns to his base form, the party members descend to meet him. Joining them, Khatovar and the others begin to search the areas they had previously left untouched, in one room Zafar discovers the stash in which his weapons and armor have been kept which he hastily dons with the help of a companion.
Across the room, however Ce-Tan and Glarth encounter a merchant of a wide variety of specialized goods. Bartering gently with the threat of death, the pair procures for themselves a sampler pack of expensive drugs. During the negotiations Glarth manages to procure a sample, clinking glasses with Ce-tan he hastily downs his cup as the Sorcerer lowers his own bemusedly.
Staggering and walking away respectively, the pair ascend the stair case to the second floor where they find the rest of the group standing in front of the Infusium, Zafar impatiently attempting to determine its operation. Glarth explains both what the machine does and what it contains and administers to the crew a carefully chosen selection of infusions for each. Zafar being hasted and given spider climb, takes off to the rope left dangling from third floor balcony when Ce-Tan first levitated up to investigate those long 3 and a half minutes ago. Ce-Tan and Glarth also having taken spider climb easily ascend followed by the naturally skilled Seurbahn who had been infused with Magic Fang. Khatovar, (having been granted cats grace) easily catches up, taking the flight of stairs with his natural fleet of foot. While Zakhmed, being bitter, slow, drunk, and left out, bumbles along taking his sweet time.
As Khatovar reaches the top of the steps, he bursts into the room in the midst of the chaos of battle as four gnolls engage Zafar. Ce-Tan enters the room behind Zafar and opposite Khatovar, Color Spraying the two closest gnolls as Suerbahn and Glarth trail behind. As the party searches the area after cleaning up the Gnolls and Glarth, invisible, yet grumbling, chooses to sit down in a back room which contained nothing valuable and investigate his newly purchased drugs.
As the party leaves their defeated quarry to face Kard’san they find they are forced to cross by way of a long hallway opened to the outside by arches spanning from floor to ceiling. Making their way, Glarth catches up as he fumbles with an unlit pipe of pesh, but just moments after he crosses the threshold to the hall, Khatovar calls out to the party in warning, and all but Zafar take cover. Off in the distance, hurtling toward the party comes the shadow stealer, finally confronting the prey which it had stalked. Bracing himself for the attack, Zafar winds up, adding power to his swing and devistates the beast with a critically placed shot. In the same moment, the beast sweeps directly through the Paladin, passing straight through his frame. Unfortunately for the beast, however, Zafar remains immune to its terror and the party quickly take the opportunity to cut down it down before it can recoup and attack another.
Unswayed, the party finally reaches Kard’san, the scarred and brutal warrior. As the door to the final room swings open, standing alongside his Flind servant, Kard’san awaits his quarry. Bursting into the room Zafar goes straight for leader of the Gnolls, trusting his strength and sword to conquer. However as he takes the final steps to engage, everything around him begins to grow massively in size. The fireplace, the chairs, and worst, the warrior and Flind. As he shrinks he also misses his first blow and is near immediately disarmed by the nearby Flind. Zhakmed, Ce-tan, Seurbahn and Khatovar all join in the fray as Glarth catches up, pipe still in mouth. As Khatovar lands a blow with the mythical staff he uncovered from the overgrown courtyard of ruined monastery of Saranorae, Kard’san cries out in shear rage “THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU” the connection, to the party, becomes clear. Kard’san was of the Templars of the Five Winds. A man formerly committed to the war against evil.
As Glarth enters the room he immediately throws an Enlarge Person potion to Zafar. Catching the potions, Zafar tosses it back without missing a beat, choosing to focus on engaging his foe, to which Glarth accepts as an invitation to drink himself. Downing the enlarge person potion, the gnome suddenly becomes twice his previous size. Now equal in stature to his foe, the old gnome, in a rush of less than insightful, drug induced stupor, attempts to grapple the giant, burly, battle scarred warrior Kard’san and is immediately cut down without effort. Barely surviving the blow, he staggers back as Ce-tan, Zafar and Khatovar make proper use of their skills, finally cutting down both the warrior and his pet Flind.
Searching the room they find ample rewards for their hard work and prepare themselves to face the looming threat of the gnolls with whom they made a deal with the devil.
