The Jackal’s Price: LoF Session XLII
Rayhan encouraged us to take his familiar with us before we left his house. His familiar was a Macaw, named Abaneshi, that could speak and was rather intelligent. We headed out to go to the church of Abadar to collect our funds. Ce-tan wanted a to find a palanquin so he did not have to walk. This was mainly because he was stabbed and blamed the walking for it. Half way to picking up the palanquin we saw a patrol of Zephyr guard and with them an Aluum, which is very odd. We finally reached the Immaculate Repository and received our funds. Ce-tan is insulted by the bird, which I found most amusing.
The bird suggested that we go to the peculiar emporium, it is a market not a shop, for magic items. A guide is needed since it is a maze of three dimensions that is ever changing. Luckily the bird lead the way. We reached the Peculiar Emporium and it was filled with random and peculiar items. Khatovar ate a desert rat. Ce-tan and Khatovar paid to go into a store front of a man who claimed to have many relics of the city of brass. This is mainly because they are idiots. They are not impressed. In the last room Ce-tan noticed a brass oil lamp that for some reason peaked his interest and caused him vertigo when he turned away from it. Ce-tan left the store front to lie his way into getting the man to selling him the lamp. The dealing began. Ce-tan trades a sword for the lamp, but not to feel cheated, after we all left Ce-tan stole a magic pearl. The pearl turned out to be a gem of elemental earth.
Ce-tan made a joke and tubed the lamp. To our shock it called forth a Janni named Zahir Ibn Tariq. He was surprised that we could call him forth and that only Jabeer Al Bazaan, who he served and is bound, could call him forth. He tried to leave but Ce-tan called him back. Zahir should only be bound to Jabeer and his kin. He was trapped in the lamp because he slept with princess and was sentenced for 100 years for every time he slept with her. There was must have been a lot of sleeping going on. The last time he left the lamp was 700 years ago. It was a wish that bound him to the lamp illegally, which sounds just like something Ce-tan’s ancestors would do. It is most likely only a wish that could set him free. Jabeer bound him with his own wish and with no contract and no way out other than time.
A discussion ensued and some heated argument between Faharid and Ce-tan about the immorality of the bound Zahir. Ce-tan however enforced his will on Zahir and even went so far as to force Zahir to enjoy his company. That alone should have been punishment enough. In the end however, it seemed there was no choice, given how he was bound so Zahir joins us. We finally do what we were supposed to do and start buying items. It took most of the day to track down our items. While we were purchasing equipment we were approached by two other merchants who tried and purchase the scroll. As with all others we declined. Once done we headed off to see Maysam Fajr and again we saw more Zepher guards, but no sign of any of the unrest and chaos that we heard of.
We reached the palace of Maysam, which we found with a broken main door. Outside stood a tiefling and satyr, Cafira Blacktongue and Sayyid Farook. The Fajr family house had apparently become a pesh palace for the Violet Fire. Walking into the place was like walking into a poor mans rendition of the abyss. All the beautiful works of art had been destroyed and there was paint everywhere. The whole place had been thoroughly trashed. We were led up the stairs by a man of Maysam and we came upon her mid orgasm or so we thought. Ce-tan charms the door man to knock and open the door for us. The room was like a massive harem. There was a couple, obviously finishing up with sex, lying on the bed. We discovered later that the male performing the sexual acts was part of the Zephyr Guard. A women was sitting on a chaise, with a spiders web tattoo on the side of her face, watching the couple having sex. There also was another man sitting in a chair and dressed all in black. He was just sitting there sharpening his knife with a very sever look on his face. He most likely never smiled, but given his mistress it was hard not blame him. Khatovar and Ce-tan recognized the women sitting on the chaise as the one who they purchased Helen’s freedom from…so Maysam.
The negotiations began and Ce-tan conjured a lie that we sought a gift for Rayhan and that she possessed the book we sought. She knew what we were there for and what we wanted to use it for. Ce-tan used his abilities to determine her hearts desire, which was to watch Ketapesh burn. In the end she has the key and we have the door as she put it. She wanted in and wanted the power for herself so she can burn Ketapesh. We try to negotiate on how to make this work but with little success. We noticed a stack of the rubies of Ling sitting in front of her. Looked like they had just been counted.Negotiations did not go any better after that. She wanted to see the scroll first before she gave us the book. Then she wanted us to sign a more permanent contract. She was most likely high as the sky if she believed we would leave her alone with the scroll or even let her get her hands on it. We left with nothing decided and most likely she will make a move.
As we left and headed back to Rayhan’s we noticed the inner city had gone mad and everyone was killing each other. The Zephyr guard was trying to stop it and seemed unaffected by the madness, but were having little affect on ending the chaos as well. We believe it would be worthwhile to investigate…
