The End of Eternity: LoF Session L
She thanked us for answering her summons and walked over to the boatman to take the egg. With the egg out of his grasp the boatman disappeared. In the beginning she tried to sweet talk us, but was not very successful. I asked why we were there to which she answered to meet her prophet, the prophet of the chorus. She evaded most our questions and answered our questions with her own. In the end she told us our questions should really be directed to the prophet. Curious Khatovar asked what her true form was and rather than reply she rippled her form and showed us. Her true form had a snake like body and a bird like head with a human torso. Later we would discovered she was an Imentesh, which at the time we had no idea what that was, other than Ce-tan who believed it was a type of Protean. Her name was Lahapraset.
Continuing our conversation with Lahapraset we learned the last creature to come to Kakishon was Jhavul, and he had started to exterminate her people. She mentioned they were betrayed by Jhavul, which was interesting since beings of chaos tent to be natural betrayers. In order to hide from Jhavul her people hid in the Isle of Not because it cannot be found unless they wish it. With Jhavul gone they still hid from those they call the jailers which sounded to be genies of some kind. I asked how we can trust them if they are creatures that naturally betray. Her memory being short she replied said she did not remember saying such a thing and she is hoping we can come to a mutually beneficial agreement. Ce-tan asked what she wished for and she stated she just wanted to go home and to no longer be a slave.
Off in the horizon we saw three floating lights which she revealed could be anything her people desired. As we maid our way closer to the lights she informed us that we could not leave Kakishon and no conjuration magic would work other than healing and summoning. As we came closer the three lights resolved themselves into what looked like lighthouses. As we stepped on what appeared to be a stone dock from a quarry, it turned out to be sponge like. She called it unused material… souls of the dead and damaged.
As we walked across toward the middle of the dock, the dark…complete dark absorbed all light as if the light could not move to it. As we approached where a faint light was emanating from, Lahapraset held her hand to the darkness a tunnel formed from within the dark, random colors swirled and visually exploded as we walk forward. The tunnel Turned from one direction to the next, the chaotic nature belayed our senses until we were lost. Golden glowing liquid pooled in off-channel, Lahapraset told us they are made of pure creation. Abenishi believed they are manifestations of pure chaos whose presence cause fluctuations of reality. Ce-tan was curious of the ingestion of the liquid to which Lahapraset reported, “Another word for creation, is destruction.” “Change?” “Change.” We finally reached a large pool, larger than all others before, while situated off to the side was a stone patio with adorned with furniture fit for a palace. Ornate beds and chaises, and tables welcomed us. “I am Naithimay Algory, Nala if you will” a vaguely elvish woman greeted us with eyes which glowed purple, and a crown of runes circled like a halo around her head changing chaotically. “Come sit, we have much to discuss”.
Nala explained, as Lahapraset had before, that Jhavul had killed many of their people. Ce-tan, exasperated and taxed of the days transgressions makes himself at home ordering exotic vittles. Nala broke the unfortunate news that we are indeed trapped in Kakishon. Nala, the Prophet, spoke of Jhavul the Betrayer…
“We are drawn to great works of creations, visionaries and artists… we wish to see it… it is everything we desire. When the Imprisoner came to us, together we did a great many things. When we were done with his work and tried to do our own, we could not… when we tried to go home… we could not. Kakishon was created by our power, if we left, we’d cease to exist. The collapse would tear all of us asunder… But there are other ways to leave. There are things to be done that would give us and you your freedom. Kakishon is but a jail, and a contract has held us here… contracts that have no meaning. Now the Imprisoner is gone and we are slaves to that which is left behind.”
“Jhavul, despite his nature, would be predisposed to help Shaitan and leave us here. We came to an agreement and in the war with the Shaitan he would assist us, but he betrayed us. He wished for a single man, a man he brought… a human wizard. He escaped Jhavul for many years, hiding in places Jhavul could not go, his name was Andrathi… and we gave the human to him. They had some past disagreement which made it profitable. If you want to go home, we can help with what we can gain together. There are two ways which I know, three which includes killing me and my people; when we first created this plane, carved out of the Maelstrom, it had 4 tethers to the elemental planes… breaking these we could escape, but collapse the plane it would. Using the tether to escape the plane is a way out. The seed/tether of Earth still remains… We tried to destroy the last remaining seed, but the Shaitan realized what we were up to and they would have stopped us as our forces were balanced. When the Shaitans unearthed what we were doing, they hid the earth seed. Jhavul would have tipped the scales in our favor, but his extermination of us has shifted the balance in the other direction. Jhavul was sought out when his power became clear and the opportunity to stop the Shaitan arouse. Jhavul had the power to pervert the Shaitan’s wishes to his will.”
“At the Isle of Naught we are at the Boarder of Existence, the Maelstrom is a reality set in stone by the wishes of Genies, held together by their lawful nature – becoming anchored by their will… But all my people must leave. Once all the anchors are un-tethered, the plane will unravel and we will all go home… but you would be required to destroy everything and everyone; this is the truth – the path whether you would believe or not. Jhavul, an exception, got what he wanted from us – if he was to slay all of us the plane would capsize and all would be destroyed. If the seed were to be found… all would be free.”
After her speech Ce-tan was not moved and wished for a better recompense for his services than mere freedom. His price… the complete and utter power over the element of Fire. Foolishly Nala admitted it existed and was made for the Imprisoner Nex. It is a magic that perverts Fire causing a cataclysmic reaction which explosively hurts Fire. The thought of Ce-tan with such a power, gave me great concern, but it seemed just as likely to kill Ce-tan. Though Nala was more than willing to sling threats, she believed the plane was unraveling due to our arrival into Kakishon. Nala believed the destruction of their brother and people was imminent. She explained that the Shaitan and Imentesh were natural enemies, but the Shaitan would not destroy them, nor let them leave. Sensing there were no other options the deal with this “gift of fire” was struck… with reservations…
Nala explained, “on the Island of Aliskaren, a crystal grows. When it comes in contact with fire or beings of Fire it induced a paradox reality which quickly and violently change them to an opposite nature. The energy which makes a fire elemental, it would rip itself in an explosion of cold. On the Isle of Kasiradhi, there is a creature Artilnorin, a blacksmith an Azer (fire dwarf) who has done much work with the crystal.”
Concerned with Ce-tan’s power mongering, I believed he might kill himself with his wish for power over the element of fire. While that was not all to concerning to me at the time, it was very possible he would take several of us with him to all our destruction. But if we wished to find the Shaitan, there was one currently residing at Nex’s palace, which seemed like a better starting point than sating Ce-tan’s lust for power. If the Shaitan were all slain, the Imentesh would be able to enact their will all over the plane of Kakishon. The only questions I had was why we should grant their freedom and aid such creatures of chaos and how could we harm such a creature like Jhavul…
Nala continued again "The only truth is that of the Cerulean Void. I wish to be free, the corruption of Kakishon which has damaged my brother has been sudden and the collapse has not been completed. I am not certain how long we have unless we have some way of undoing that foul creature’s, Jhavul’s, wishes. As for weapons against Jhavul, some luck would be had by the crystal, Malaks – Genies – Ifrits. Imentesh’s/Kaqutars … proteans were of constant chaos, when the gods came and perverted the worlds, the genies assisted them in spreading their scapes. The genies now are not genies of then, much has changed and bloodlines/power have grown thin. The creature Jhavul used powers unlike any other, his Wishcraft was great indeed. Nex was powerful to create this world, and the secrets of this ancient world will help. His mysteries, the most potent being known by Venema Shal’dir, an ally of Nex in life, and guardian of his death and for his tomb.
With a wave of her hand, Nala created a map and added way points showing which island. She then reached down to touch the unused material floor which promptly started to bubble. The vapor proceeded outward like boiling water and we all jumped into the bubbling pool. We found ourselves on the docks of yet another island, this one with a single hill and a grassy mound. A large plaza with a marble staircase climbed the side the hill and there was a sense of peace… lassitude… about the air. While Ce-tan and Khatovar seemed relaxed, I remained alert and on edge. The patio/plaza was unmarked by the age and timeworn era we were in. White stones made the bulk of the plaza while golden marble and polished brass columns jutted to the sky. The statues scattered about the plaza represented the hopes, dreams, and possibilities of the future. The inspiration of Hope, Ce-tan felt they were affected by a morale boosting effect. The hill continued to rise in the east where a greying mausoleum was constructed. The alternate path led to a large pool with four domes surrounding it. The semi-circle of four marble platforms catch the sun’s rays and are covered with reliefs of Katepesh and humanoid statues of comforting peoples in walls of deep blue. Above the pool is a floating sphere of water. As we approached we looked into the four domes to find they were shelters facing the pools elegantly carved to display reliefs of the elemental planes.
We moved to sit on the stone benches as a vortex of wind bursts through the area…
